Story Cliches I Consider Deader Than Disco And Will Never Use

Fiction has been as old as when mankind first crafted the concept of storytelling. Because of that there have been some recognizable storytelling tropes. Right now I'm going to discuss a few storytelling cliches that I felt is not only outdated but will never use in my works. So lets get to it!

1. Damsel In Distress

This goes without saying. You'd think we should be done with this but this trope is still being used. Now I don't mind a protagonist being vulnerable but I despise this being use just for the sake of the love interest to look strong while the significant other looks weak and helpless. There is a difference between making a character vulnerable and making a character a complete wimp.

2. Pointless Fanservice

I like my T & A and not ashamed of it. But there is always a time and a place for such things. Like a sex montage when off the clock.

3. Karma Houdini's

It may not be tomorrow and it may not be today but my villain characters usually gets whats coming to them. And, depending on the villain, that payback will be cathartic.

4. Idiot Sidekicks

Jar Jar Binks should be a reminder why this has to go.

5. Jerkass Friends

Unless the person has some redeemable values I'd just be questioning why the sane ones put up with the person TBH.

6. Joke Villains

Now it can be used right. The Monarch from Venture Brothers and even Harmony for example. But if that is all the character is then the villain needs to find a new hobby.
