The Plot:
Its basically a slice of life anime that showcases Kowata Makoto, a witch who moved in and lives with her relatives in a rural area in Japan. Nothing too earth shattering, plot wise, it just showcases Makoto balancing her life as a witch while living as a regular human. It reminds me of Charmed but minus the supernatural battles. I like the idea of witches living among humans without any degree of social prejudice that other similar concepts would force feed its audience. With Flying Witch its like Witches exist but nobody makes a big deal about it.
Animation:
Really fluid and not overly anime. In fact the series is beautiful to look at with the background shots of the town to the detailed designs of the characters that provides them their own unique look and even the soundtrack the series provides gels well.
Characters:
When a anime series has managed to provide characters that haven't irritated the hell out of me and I'm not talking intentional hate but more Scrappy Doo like hate then the series is going places. I also like that each character has his or her own unique voice that makes them stand out instead of having the same personality but with a different design. If I had to think of a character that I happen to like the most its Mokoto's older sister Akane. She has that laid back eccentric personality mixed with a wiser than you'd expect appeal that makes her a well rounded character. It also helps that she reminds me of a young anime version of Storm.
Overall:
This kind of anime may throw those who are used to more actionized anime off. But if you give it time you'd find yourself enjoying such a heartfelt series from start to finish. I'd even recommend it to those who enjoy Slice of Life anime's. I give Flying Witch an A.
I'd highly recommend viewing this.
